The 1999 World Flower Show held last month was, to all accounts, highly successful. Congratulations to Di Wayne from Westville whose work was considered by the judges to be the best on show, triumphing over entries from top international floral artists. Good news is that the Orchestre National de France will perform in Durban this month with the KZNPO; three KZN artists were selected over 200 entries as finalists for the 1998 Winsor and Newton Millennium Painting Competition, and the Maritzburg Oval Arts & Crafts Market has been recognised as in the top 10 markets south of the equator. The Time of the Writer festival makes a welcome return and television producers may apply for the Vuka! Awards which reward creative excellence within the genre of public service announcement production. The deadline for project applications to the National Arts Council is March 15 and the Cultural Industries Growth Strategy (CIGS) produced some interesting figures regarding the contribution of the arts to employment creation. |
